Unlock Global Engagement: How I Attracted a Worldwide Audience

What did I do to get people from India, the Philippines, South Africa, Paraguay, Japan, and the UK to visit my website? I’m so glad you asked!

I meant to share this last week, but perhaps this is the perfect timing, seeing that today is our Write With Me free program live session. Of course, the topic is Influence Mastery for Authors: Building Your Authority Figure or Influencer Status. Some things we shared in this month’s course and discussed in our live session are the importance of harnessing the power of social media for influence. And for me/us, that meant using a big national event such as the Super Bowl to garner attention.

In my blog post, What Authors Can Learn From The Super Bowl: A Guide To Winning In The Publishing Field, I illustrated how the Super Bowl holds valuable lessons for authors striving to make their mark in the publishing world. I shared strategies used on the football field and how authors can use those to elevate their writing game. Honestly, it had nothing to do with if you were a football fan: I only watched the halftime.

Well, that blog post created a buzz that yielded visitors from India, Philippines, South Africa, Paraguay, Japan, and the UK to visit our publishing website. But it wasn’t just writing the article and the timing, but also choosing the right platforms. One thing I teach in this month’s course is how social media platforms are not created equal. You must identify where your target audience spends their time and focus your efforts there, especially outside of social media. Each platform has its strengths and caters to different types of content and engagement. If you study the graphic, you will see the different referral sources for those who engaged with that viral blog post.

Speaking of content, it wasn’t just a matter of where we shared but WHAT. If you are going to be an influencer or authority figure as an author, you must share valuable content. Too many authors waste time creating begging posts–
please buy my book–versus content that adds value to your followers’ lives. This could include writing tips, insights into your creative process, personal stories, or thoughts on industry trends. Value-driven content fosters engagement and loyalty.

Last, but not least, I cannot stress enough the importance of consistent branding and messaging. Although you cannot post the same content the same way across all your social media platforms, your online presence must be consistent. Consistent messaging reinforces your identity and helps build trust with your audience.

So there you have it: a sneak peek behind my walls as an industry leader and authority figure. At the end of the day, your website is what I refer to as “prime real estate.” What’s the point in building it if you never use it or create content that will increase your community/followers? This error that a lot of authors make compliments the thought process of publishing a book and having it in bookstores believing that people will just know it’s there and buy it. Good luck with that!
